Example of Special Purpose Stainless Steel Vessels

BS 1449 MILL FINISHES
REFFINISHNOTES
0HOT ROLLED AND SOFTENED BUT NOT DESCALEDSuitable only for certain heat-resisting applications, as the presence of oxide scale impairs resistance to corrosion. Surface inspection is not practicable.
1HOT ROLLED,SOFTENED AND DESCALEDGenerally used when smoothness and uniformity of finish are not important. It's is permissible for grinding marks to be present.
2DCOLD ROLLED,
SOFTENED AND DESCALED
A uniform matt finish.
2BCOLD ROLLED, SOFTENED, DESCALED AND LIGHTLY ROLLED ON POLISHED ROLLSA smooth finish for general applications, brighter than finish no.2D
2ABRIGHT ANNEALED
(BA)
A cold rolled reflective finish retained through annealing.
BS 1449 SHOP FINISHES
REFFINISHNOTES
3AGROUNDA uniform coarse ground finish generally obtained by treatment with abrasives of 80 to 100 grit size.
3BDULL BUFFEDA uniform straight grained finish, generally achieved in one pass, applied to 2B or 2A mill finish: produced by polishing with 180 to 220 grit size abrasive belts.
4POLISHED WITH FINE GRITThe final polishing, generally produced by treatment with successively finer abrasives of 180 to 240 grit size, gives an undirectional texture, not highly reflective
7BRIGHT BUFFEDA bright finish, generally applied to 2B or 2A mill finish, by treatment with fibre suitable polishing compound.
8BRIGHT POLISHEDA bright reflective finish with a high degree of image clarity. Produced by polishing with successively finer grits followed by buffing with a very fine polishing compound.
